Cooling Down, No Surprise

by Nick Coons
Oct 20, 2004

I talked about it last year at this time, and I talked about it the year before. And now we're going to talk about it this year as well. Just because it comes up every year doesn't make it any less exciting.

As it always happens this time of year, the weather has suddenly changed from very hot to not so hot in a matter of a day or two. In fact, it's downright chilly. At least, to us Native Phoenicians it is.

For those of you from back east, it's probably shorts and t-shirt weather. But for the "but it's a dry heat" folks, it's time to break out the heavy coats.

For the first time in awhile, it's supposed to rain very soon, possibly even tomorrow. This could also mean snow for the high country. We've got a nice rainstorm moving in from the Pacific, and this could bring some good precipitation to the entire state.

If that happens, we might see temperatures as low as the (gulp) 50s in Phoenix.

While this is a late start to cooling weather for most people, this is fairly average for Arizona

The State of Arizona comprises the extreme south-western portion of the United States. It is bounded on the north by Utah, on the east by New Mexico, on the south by Mexico, and on the west by California and Nevada.

. And it appears we may have a very good winter this year. After nearly a decade of drought, we sure could use it!
