Welcome To 2003 At The Tempe Block Party

by Nick Coons
Jan 1, 2003

I just arrived home from the Tempe Tostitos Block Party on Mill Ave. We weren't there very long; didn't arrive until about 10:45pm. But we did make it in time to walk all the way through the crowd to the Tempe Town Lake beach and ring in the new year with the Go-Go's.

From what I've heard, and read, there were approximately 150,000 people there tonight. In addition, there were many food and drink vendors, kegs, restrooms, trashcans; as well as 40 bands performing on 10 stages throughout downtown Tempe since yesterday afternoon.

This is the 18th year that the festivities have taken place in downtown Tempe, and will likely continue as an annual tradition, and one of the top-ten places in the country to celebrate New Year's Eve.
