We arrived at 1:00 p.m. on a Thursday with 7 in our party we were immediately told that if we did not have a reservation we would be given 1 check and charged a 18% gratuity(there was no one else waiting and it was not at all crowded) We waited 5 mintues to be seated and the service and food was horrible. I had not been to Monty's in 20 years, and I had brought family from out of town. I will never go back

I also had not been to Monti's for about 12 years. got a flyer in the mail the other day. So we went, As in the olden days the food and service was the best. We are going back again tonight. With the new freeway systems it is so easy to get there. We love Monti's.

Have been going to Monti's for 31 years. It has gone down hill! My husband and I had dinner there last week. I ordered a salad with blue cheese dressing. Waitress says, "We don't have blue cheese, is roquefort okay?" I said "sure". When she asked for our drink order, I said, "is it Happy Hour?", to which she replied, "Yes it is; for 2 more hours." So my husband and I each ordered a glass of house wine at $3 each. When we got the bill, we saw we were charged $1.49 extra for the Roquefort dressing, and a total of $12 for the two glasses of wine. When we questioned our waitress she responded, "Well, we have to import the Roquefort dressing from France so it costs more". And what about the wine that you said was on happy hour, yet we are charged double the price at $6 vs $3 per glass? "Well", she said, "That is only if you ordered it in the bar". When we questioned her ethics, she gave us an "Oh well, that's the way it is" additude. We paid the bill (NO TIP!) and decided to talk to the manager on the way out. The manager immediately admonished us for not speaking to him sooner. We explained that we didn't want to cause a scene at the table in front of other customers. We told him how disappointed we were and that we'd probably not be back. He offered us a credit for a future visit in the amount that we were unfairly charged ($7.49). We accepted the offer and he disappeared. We waited 5 or 6 minutes and, when he did not return, we left. I have been a patron and supported Monti's la Casa Vieja for over 30 years. I will never go back! Oh, and my "medium-rare" stake was more like Medium-well and very dry.

Whenever we go over to Phoenix, we make it a point to go to Monti's. It has changed from the "old" days, using plastic containers, paper napkins, just little things I noticed. Roquefort has ALWAYS been an extra charge. BTW, anyone have the recipe for their dressing?? Would love to have it. Will still go there, but each time is different, sometimes good, sometimes bad =)
